The road to being a disciple is the grace of God that works in us as we know and believe what happened through the cross. The root of the gospel (which is the good news about Jesus) is about all that Jesus accomplished for us through His death, burial and resurrection, which is consummated by the New Covenant and His inheritance with God, which He freely shares with we who believe.

Many great soul winners share a sketchy message about forgiveness through sins. Of course, everyone wants to have their sins forgiven, so people are quick to respond. But the number one complaint of most “soul winners” is the lack of follow-through on the part of new converts.

We tend to forget: the gospel preached by the early Church that “turned the world upside down” was the message of the cross. This is why salvation begins by believing in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead. Unless we share the message of the cross, the new convert only has a vague idea of salvation.

We forget we are not called to make converts; we are called to make disciples. The road to being a disciple is the grace of God that works in us as we know and believe what happened through the cross. The message of the cross is the foundation upon which every New Covenant doctrine must stand.
