Our concepts of revelation knowledge are based in mysticism and Gnosticism. They taught that by way of personal revelations, one would receive greater anointing and grow into what God would have them become. This concept is still embraced by many serious but Biblically ignorant people today!
Jesus is our revelation of God. He is the wisdom of God, which means we can look at Him and understand the application of God’s Word. There is nothing we need to know about God that is not revealed through Jesus’ interpretation and application of the Word and His death, burial and resurrection.
Revelations about God that are not based on Jesus’ manifestation of God are what the Bible calls private interpretation. Private interpretation is subjective; it is based on the individual’s experience and personal preferences. These types of revelations lead to erroneous interpretations of God’s Word; they take people away from Jesus as the center of their spiritual life. Their experience becomes their teacher rather than the Word of God, the Holy Spirit and the exact representation as presented by Jesus as Lord!
All we need for life and godliness is found through the knowledge of the Lord Jesus. The life of God is found by knowing God through the Lord Jesus. Staying in love and solving relationship problems often requires a revelation, i.e. the ability to see and handle the situation just as Jesus would.
