Quote for Blog - 051016John the Baptist was in the bloodline of the Levitical Priesthood. He could be considered the last priest of the Old Covenant. Interestingly, he was in the particular family who had the responsibility of selecting and examining the Passover Lamb before the sacrifice to determine if its qualifications would cause the wrath of God to pass over Israel.

When John, who had a significant following, was a man of righteousness and was accepted by the people and by the priesthood, pointed to Jesus and said, “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world,” it was very significant to those people. They knew who he was and knew his responsibilities to prepare for the Passover. But now, instead of an animal that would only serve as a type and shadow, this was the real thing, the true Messiah, the eternal Passover Lamb of God!

John validated that Jesus was whom He claimed to be and, among other things, Jesus claimed to be the Word made flesh. Since He is the Word in the flesh we have no right to interpret anything God ever said or did without first determining if it is consistent with the life, ministry and teaching of Jesus.
