Jesus could have gotten to Lazarus before he died. He was less than a day’s journey from his hometown. But He waited! Why? The religious leaders of Jesus’ day had come up with what they considered to be Messianic miracles i.e., miracles that could only be done by the true Messiah. One of those miracles included raising someone from the dead after three days.
When Jesus raised Lazarus, the religious leaders no longer had any excuse to reject Jesus. They didn’t kill Jesus because He wasn’t the Messiah; they killed Him because they feared He was and that He would disrupt their hold on the people through religion!
