In the original language, it is unclear whether He says to have faith in God or the faith of God. However, since we are created in the likeness and image of God, He becomes our model for operating faith. After all, everything God did in creation was by faith.
When God created the world He first conceived and believed it in His own heart; then He spoke it into existence. He modeled what faith looks like. The God kind of faith follows God’s actions as our example.
Far too often we think things changing on the outside is the key to our inner joy, fulfillment, and peace. If that’s the case, we are subject to and controlled by our circumstances. The truth is, when we establish our heart and mind in God’s truth we have peace and joy no matter what’s happening externally.
