Because we are created in the likeness and image of God, we are the only creatures on the planet that have the capacity to change our quality of life. Too often, we forget this basic reality. If I do not like the life I have, I can change it!
We forget that we are created in the image of the Almighty God. He is a creator, and so are we. He created this world and we, in turn, have the capacity to create our own world. We do not create our world by making something from nothing. We create it by making choices. We create a better world by making better choices, and we create a new world by making new choices!
God gave man authority over planet earth (Genesis 1:26). He commissioned man to go forth and subdue it and have dominion (Genesis 1:28). The practical application of this truth was reiterated by Moses in Deuteronomy 30:19: I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live. People forget that we have the power to make choices and expect those choices to bring about change… change in ourselves and change in the world around us!
Earlier in Deuteronomy, he warns that this is not mysterious or hard. No one has to go get it for you. No one has to make this happen. You don’t need to wait on God. Just make a choice. And since you have the power to choose… always choose life. If you’re struggling financially, choose prosperity and success. If you’re overcome with worry, choose peace. If you’re burdened with sickness, choose health. In fact, he says if you will choose life, you will always love God. I know what you’re thinking… I would choose all these things if I could! We tend to revert back to the idea that we are powerless, that we are victims of life. We forget who we are, how we were created, and who our God is in us!
