God desires to manifest His love to the world. He wants people to experience His supernatural power, to be healed when they are sick, and to hear words of prophecy when they need confirmation. God wants to show His miracle-working power when the need is greater than anything anyone can do themselves. When people have reached their limit, He wants them to express a faith that moves mountains. We have traditionally called this the “gifts of the Holy Spirit,” and while somewhat true, the terminology is a little misleading.

These gifts are manifestations or expressions of the Holy Spirit, possessions that God gives us to use as we will. This occurs when we are available and yielded to God to express Himself freely through us to others. The root word for “gifts” is the word “grace.” Grace is God’s power, ability, and capacity that comes by unmerited favor and works through our hearts. Healing, prophecy, miracles, and all the gifts are things we cannot do in our own power, but God deeply desires to do them through us.
