Most come to God on the promise of a personal relationship, then it seems that every aspect of religion turns away from a relationship to slave mentality. Slaves don’t get to know their master. They simply try to do everything right to avoid punishment. The best they can hope for is to have their basic needs met. The salve is always shadowed by the fear of doing something wrong and then being punished.
God wants us to be His children. Children want to know their Father. They want to be like Him if they love and respect Him. They seek a relationship. They want to laugh and play with Him. They want Him to teach them how to manage life and they expect His protection!
We have to become like little children, which pretty much means we give up most of what we think we know about God. We stop attempting to work out all the doctrine and go back to the relationship. That means every time you read your Bible, pray, or make decisions you are always doing it from a perspective that says, “How can I use this to make my relationship with God more real, more alive and more genuine?”
