Spiritual death is a term that few people understand. Death is separation. Physical death happens when the spirit is separated from the body (James 2:26). Spiritual death is the state of being separated from God. On the cross, after becoming the sin of all mankind, Jesus spoke these words, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me” (Matthew 7:26)? He wasn’t merely quoting Scripture. Part of paying the full price for our sins was that He would be separated from God in death! Since every aspect of Jesus’ death was substitutional, He suffered the curses of the law so we would be delivered from them (Galatians 3:13). If separation is spiritual death, then according to Jesus’ own words He died spiritually. But the great news is since He was alienated from God in His death, we will never experience that separation. That’s why now when a believer dies he or she goes immediately into the presence of the Lord. Did Jesus die spiritually?

This article is heresy. Read Hebrews 10:5-10
Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
The Bible clearly states, “We have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” It is His physical death in obedience to the will of the Father that sanctifies us.
Heresy is an opinion held contrary to orthodox religious doctrine. This article does not say anything against your belief that the physical death of Jesus Christ sanctified us. However it states that according to what Jesus Himself said He died spiritually, and this added to our salvation which includes being saved, healed, sanctifies, set free, delivered, made whole. Made whole spirit, soul, and body. I like knowing that that I am made whole, spirit, soul and body; and that Jesus’s experience of separation from God (spiritual death) assures me that I never will be separated from God.
