It’s one thing to know what needs to be done; it’s another thing altogether to know HOW TO DO what needs to be done! Even though I deeply loved and respected my first pastor, I also learned valuable lessons about what not to do. Week after week, I listened to inspiring messages about all the things we should be doing, yet no one ever taught us HOW to put those things into practice. Sadly, I’ve observed this same issue in far too many sermons.

After each message, I found myself repeatedly approaching my pastor with the same question: “I understand what I ought to be doing, but can you please tell me how to actually do it?” His answers were sincere, but they rarely reflected practical, life application.

That experience sparked a commitment within me: “I will never become an ‘ought-to’ preacher. If I can’t demonstrate how to live it, I won’t preach it.”
